D. Bray

Introducing Our Guides

Donald Bray is our expert bull tahr guide, though he can also provide hunts after most other South Island free-range, big game animals. The property he hunts on is magnificent, and contains large numbers of tahr, including numerous trophy bulls. In the season just finished, 18 were harvested here with the best pushing out past the 13 inch mark. Hunts traditionally are best from March to July, and again in late September to October.

B. Matthews

Brendan Matthews has a deserved reputation as a successful bird shooting and trophy hunting outfitter. His hunting grounds are the South Pacific, in particular the South Island of New Zealand. His credibility comes from a number of factors. His rural background, the fact he is a trophy hunter himself, his high success rate, and the quality of the trophies he finds. Boar hunts are a speciality of late, and 200 pounders like this big, dressed 202lb boy have been taken regularly.

J. Gray

James Gray excels as a New Zealand alpine hunting guide, New Caledonian rusa stag expert, and gamebird hunting exponent. His special season duck and geese hunts offer clients amongst the best bird hunting available in New Zealand. He is well known for the quality of his hunting access network base, and his ability to secure for hunters some of the best chamois taken in New Zealand. His new properties in New Caledonia are producing massive trophy heads. Turkey hunts are another speciality.

G. Martin

Glenn Martin is one half of our North Island based hunting outfit. Together with John Ham he guides clients on the magnificent 5,000 red stag hunting region they have exclusive rights to hunt on. With hunting contacts in Australia, he can offer clients the full South Pacific hunting experience. Quality trout fishing and saltwater marlin and swordfish angling is also available. Recently they have also gained shooting rights on a new property that has trophy fallow buck, red stag, goats and boar.

G. Dougherty

Greg Dougherty is based in the middle of some of the South Island’s best fishing waterways. He is a skilled fly-fishing guide. He differs from most New Zealand fishing guides in that he specialises in offering drift-fishing packages. He has local council permits and Department of Conservation concessions to drift down kilometres of some of the most pristine and trout rich rivers found in the South Island of New Zealand. His rafts are fitted with comfortable seats and rowing frames. This allows anglers to not only fish as they drift but also lets them cover up to 16km of wild New Zealand River per day.

J. Angland

Jeremy Angland, is truly an international hunting guide. First he spends the New Zealand hunting season  on a property renowned for free-range red stag and large chamois buck. This ranch also has a wild park of 2,000 acres where hunters may test their skills against game born and reared in a challenging, hunting playground. He also has access to quality free-range fallow buck and tahr hunting. Then, once the hunting season has ended he guides clients in regions around the world. His brother John is a part owner of the ranch, and organises clients' safaris.

R. Potroz

Ray Potroz is our resident North Island bird hunting expert. From his base in Taranaki he guides clients after a wide diversity of waterfowl and upland game bird species. He can even offer hunts for wild peacock: an amazing safari as these birds are as wary as any wild deer. Potroz also has access to one of the few wild bull properties in New Zealand and has taken a trophy himself with the bow. He is the guide we recommend for bowhunter clients. This trophy billy goat was taken recently on a property where goat numbers are high, and numerous shot opportunities will occur.
