Trophy Fish |
Lake or river, your guide will seek out brown and rainbow trophies. Walk, spot, stalk, cast, hook and hopefully land are the techniques used. Either fish High Country rivers and lakes for trophy brown and rainbow trout or East Coast rivers and lakes for brown, rainbow, sea run trout, kahawai and salmon. One special destination we target is the inland Ashburton lakes. This extract was written by a recent client; |

Unique Places |
" The lake fishing options in the region are numerous. An hour’s drive will see you at either Lake Herron, Lake Roundabout, Lake Emma, Lake Camp, Lake Emily, or Lake Clearwater. The main fish targeted is brown trout, but Camp has rainbows, and Emily has brook trout. A scenic drive saw us reach our destination quickly. Lake Emma is off the main road and requires 4WD to reach the better water. |

| Lake Fishing |
DOC now manages the area and a keen young ranger soon approached us and gave us the didymo protection chat. Numerous anglers were already fishing when we arrived, and the general defeated body language told the story. Not much happening. A splashy rise raised my interest level however so under guide advice I rigged up my rod and slid down the bank to the lake’s edge. |

Success |
A few casts later I received a good strike and landed a fat brown trout. Chuffed about catching him I carried on and was surprised when only three casts later I got a savage hit from a good fish. This was bigger, and after a spirited fight I landed a beautifully marked 2 kg hen fish. All of this had taken just 15 minutes, and had attracted the attention of several nearby anglers. They began crowding in so we decided it was time to quit on a high. " Contact: fairchase@paradise.net.nz |
