Pig Hunting

Pigs from 50lbs up to 230 lbs have been taken by bow or rifle clients.
Dougherty has no trophy fees for pig hunting and clients can combine fallow deer, wild goat, turkey, and small game stalking for one great hunting experience that won't quickly be forgotten. Once the pig is harvested your guide will skin, bone out, and bag up your pork so you can take it home with you or if you have taken a good trophy we will head skin it for your taxidermist.
But remember book early as we have a limited number of  pig hunts each year.

Turkey Hunting

Situated 15 miles from the small town of  Ranfurly (population 800) in Central Otago, South Island  of New Zealand Dougherty is about  two hours drive from Queenstown or Dunedin airports. He offers bow hunting and shotgun hunting: and guided 1 x 1 and semi guided turkey hunts. He has a designated area ( approx 1000 acres ) strictly for the turkey bow hunter. Our limit of five birds a day still takes some patience and skill, but one things is certain you will probably see more  turkeys with Dougherty than some hunters will see in a lifetime of hunting elsewhere. The average mature tom weights  20lbs  (depending on time of year): beard length  averages 5 to 7  inches, and spurs  up to 1 inch. Gobbling usually starts in August and goes on into the summer months

Deer Hunting

Hunt free-range  fallow deer for a  trophy or venison. Clients may hunt with  bow or rifle. Dougherty has over 20,000 acres of private land, and the open terrain, and low cover makes the free-range stalks perfect for bow hunting. At the peak of the rut it is amazing how close you can get to that huge angry buck who has one thing on his mind. There are good animal numbers for meat but be in quick  for that  trophy buck. A limited  number of harvested bucks are taken each trophy season.

Duck/ Quail Hunting

Duck in New Zealand don't migrate, and this means they are in our area the whole hunting season. By the start of June ducks have settled down  and are getting hungry as we get further into winter. This helps the hunter as the ducks are now feeding  in young  grass fields and grain that is fed to stock by farmers, also they are decoying and coming into calling much better. Our native New Zealand paradise duck and the cunning mallard are our main ducks hunted. We hunt mornings, and evenings with layout blinds: hay bale blinds: and permanent blinds. Hunting equipment supplied ie: shotgun: ammunition: waders: and licence . Quail hunting is also offered in season.
